ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
BAROC would like to acknowledge a number of individuals without whom Maryland ArtSource would never have been undertaken: James G. Neal, Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian at Columbia University (former Dean of Libraries and the Sheridan Director of the Milton S. Eisenhower Library at Johns Hopkins University), to whom we owe thanks for his vision and commitment to partnering with local institutions to benefit the public in new and exciting ways; and David de Lorenzo, Head of Technical Services at The Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley (former Library Director, Maryland Historical Society), who was a founding member of the partnership as it exists today.

Throughout the early development of Maryland ArtSource, a number of folks represented the Maryland Historical Society within the consortium on an interim basis as the new library director at the Maryland Historical Society was selected, and we appreciate their help: Susan Harman, Associate Director for Technical Services, and David Baldwin, Assistant Director, the Baltimore County Historical Society (former Associate Director for Local and Family History at MHS). In addition, Marcy Pride, Public Library Consultant at the Division of Library Development and Services, faithfully served on the consortium through the entire course of site development until she left the department to become Library Director at Washington Bible College and Capital Bible Seminary.

BAROC would also like to thank others who contributed to the first stage of development. The vast collection of Maryland Historical Society paintings was made available to you through the tireless efforts and enthusiasm of Nancy Davis, Deputy Director, Maryland Historical Society, and Louise Brownell, Registrar, Maryland Historical Society. In addition, their capable allies Katherine Cowan and Kathleen Adrian assisted BAROC throughout the development of this feature.

Our technology partner, The Berndt Group, continues to work closely and patiently with us to fulfill the vast scope and minutiae required of Maryland ArtSource; we applaud the job they've done. BAROC would also like to express its gratitude to Joan Freedman, Director of the Digital Media Center at the Johns Hopkins University Mattin Center, who devoted her time to generating wonderful dialogue and feedback from focus group participants about the designs and usability of the Web site. We are also indebted to the many artists, educators and museum and library staff members who participated in the focus groups.

Artists who kindly assisted with the development of the Artists resource include Kathleen Adrian and Craig Hankin, as well as Richard Tryzno Ellsberry, who administers ArtMobile, the Baltimore contemporary arts discussion list, and marylandarts.net, a volunteer-run portal to arts resources across Maryland.

Last but not least, the directors and staff at the various BAROC Partner institutions have worked hard to accommodate the needs of the project. From systems, public relations, development and rights and reproductions staff to curators and registrars, the commitment of the BAROC institutions continues to be a central aspect of the project's ongoing success. In particular, we are grateful to the following individuals for providing resources and enabling staff to support the project: Virginia Massey-Burzio, Head of the Resource Services Department at the Milton S. Eisenhower Library of The Johns Hopkins University; Rebecca Graham, Head of the Systems Department for The Sheridan Libraries of The Johns Hopkins University; Dr. Nancy S. Grasmick, Maryland State Superintendent of Schools, Maryland State Department of Education; and J. Maurice Travillian, former Assistant State Superintendent for the Division of Library Development and Services, Maryland State Department of Education. We also owe great thanks and appreciation to Ann Koch, Assistant Director for Foundations, Corporations and Sponsored Projects at The Sheridan Libraries of the Johns Hopkins University, who continues to provide wonderful leadership in finding financial support to sustain the life of this exciting project.
