Biography: The Baltimore artist John McGrath studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Paris at the Académie Julian and Académie Colarossi. Active in the Watercolor Club and the Charcoal Club, two Baltimore art groups, McGrath had the opportunity to show Etta Cone his work in 1931. After selecting 16 prints and two watercolors, Etta received the prints along with an effusive thank-you note from the artist. McGrath wrote of Etta's generosity and kindness and noted the prestige that would come to him since he was now able to say that his work was included in the Cone Collection at The Baltimore Museum of Art.
