Biography: Ann Didusch Schuler graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. In 1940, a travel scholarship enabled her to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and she then returned for a postgraduate year at the Maryland Institute to work with Jacques Maroger. At the Maryland Institute of Art during the 1950s, Ann Didusch Schuler was technical assistant to Maroger, and also taught drawing, still life and portrait painting there. She and her husband, artist/instructor Hans Schuler, Jr., founded The Schuler School of Fine Arts in 1959 in an effort to continue making art in the classical realist tradition without pressure to embrace abstraction.
Ann Schuler's work is displayed in many universities, hospitals, and other public and private collections throughout the country, such as the The Annapolis Complex Collection, which is part of the Maryland State Archives, the Reserve Officers' Memorial, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C., and the Lyric Opera House, Baltimore, Md. She has been honored by the Maryland Historical Society as the senior active female portrait painter in the state, and also is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America (OPA).
Ann is the fourth generation of artists in the Didusch family. Ann's father, James Didusch, and uncle, Joseph, were among Max Broedel's first students, and became prominent medical illustrators for the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine community. Because of this heritage, many aspiring medical illustrators attend the Schuler School to hone their drawing skills before moving on to graduate work.
