Welcome to the Maryland Historical Society painting
collection. This resource provides digital images of paintings in our extensive
collection, as well as descriptive information about these works and the
artists who made them. Visualize Maryland's history through portraits,
landscapes, and views of everyday life from the seventeenth century to
the present! The three paintings below, a portrait, a landscape and a
depiction of African-American slaves working in the fields, were made a
century apart and show the range of subject matter you will find as you
explore our collection.
You may browse the collection
by date, browse collection highlights or use the Advanced Search feature, which allows you to search for paintings in a variety
of ways: by subject, title, artist, accession number or date.
