Library Collection Highlights: Among the 1.8 million images held in The Photography Collections are many by Maryland photographers and many by other photographers of Maryland subjects. Prominent photographers in the holdings include Lewis Hine, Jaromir Stephany, John Wood, A. Aubrey Bodine, Roland Freeman, Richard Jaquish, Edward Bafford, and Alexander Gardner.
Library Collection Strengths: The collections are eclectic, but include: portraits, children, African Americans, abstract photographs, landscapes, clothing & dress, farm life, buildings, libraries, universities & colleges, disasters, fires, Baltimore Sun, Baltimore News American, oyster industry, arabbers, harvesting, trains, trains stations, etc.
Library History: The Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery was founded in 1966, and the Special Collections, including The Photography Collections were begun in 1974. The mission is to serve the campus, the community, and the State.
