June 21, 2005-Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Artscape. The region's premier celebration of the arts seeks hard-working, dedicated volunteers to serve in various positions July 22-24. The festival is centered on the 1200 block of Mount Royal Avenue Friday & Saturday noon-10 p.m. and Sunday, noon-8 p.m.. From the Family Fun Park to Spanish translators to strolling theater, volunteers are needed to assist in a variety of areas.
Artscape Volunteer Opportunities BOPA Booth - Volunteers are needed to assist the staff of the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts in presenting information on upcoming events to festival-goers.
Family Fun Park - This year, the children's park has doubled the amount of interactive projects and added a workshop area called Hands-On Artscape Kids. School 33 Art Center's art tent will be a highlight of the festivities. Volunteers are needed to assist workshop presenters and artists with hands-on activities/craft projects geared for children. The Family Fun Park is open noon-8 p.m. daily.
Exhibitor Booth Relief - Artscape features approximately 120 exhibitors. Volunteers are needed to provide relief for exhibitors that need a few breaks during the day by alerting the public the vendor will return shortly.
Fashion Booth Relief - New this year, Artscape introduces a component dedicated to fashion featuring fashion shows, exhibitors, and workshops. Volunteers are needed to assist in setting up for fashion shows as well as serving as booth sitters for designers during their respective fashion shows.
Hands-On Artscape Stage Manager - Hands-On Artscape offers dozens of interactive demonstrations, workshops and performances in a variety of disciplines. Volunteers are needed to assist presenters on and off stage and assist with set up and queuing performers when their show is ending. Also, the volunteer is in charge of maintaining the hospitality area.
Information Stations - Information booths are located throughout the festival site. Volunteers are needed to give festival information to the public. Also, these information station volunteers will handle festival merchandise and demographic surveys. Please note that a 1-hour training session is required for this assignment. Orientation takes place prior to the event.
Strolling Street Theater - Volunteers needed to greet performers, direct them to their space and prevent general public from gaining access to performers' dressing rooms.
Soda Booths - Volunteers are needed to serve and sell beverages (soda and water) to festival-goers.
Spanish translators - Volunteers are assigned to the main information booth to translate the festival program and other special services.
